PORT ANGELES — A wanted felon is in custody after an hours-long standoff with law enforcement in the Agnew area east of Port Angeles.
Clallam County deputies say 52-year-old Kitsap County resident Patrick Nelson surrendered Wednesday evening after hiding in the attic of a short-term rental.
The investigation began March 8th when deputies were called to a vacation rental near Port Angeles after the property owner discovered firearms and drug paraphernalia left behind by renters. Two of the guns were later confirmed stolen.
Investigators identified Nelson, a former Clallam County resident with a violent criminal history who was recently released from prison and wanted on a Department of Corrections warrant for violating community custody.
Deputies and the Olympic Peninsula Narcotics Enforcement Team located Nelson Wednesday evening at another rental in Agnew. During the operation, 50-year-old Johnny Watts of Port Angeles was also arrested after deputies reportedly found a loaded handgun and suspected drugs in his pocket.
The Peninsula Crisis Response Team responded and nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution. After several hours of negotiations, Nelson surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody without injuries.
The investigation remains ongoing and additional charges may be considered.
