LOCAL SPORTS: Roughriders Fall in Golf; Softball Edges North Mason

PORT ANGELES — In golf action, the Port Angeles boys suffered a rare loss to North Mason by 17 strokes, 187–170. Roughrider golf coach Bob Anderson said he “tips his hat” to the Bulldogs for a strong round.

The Roughriders were led by Cale Wentz, who shot a 43. Max Gagnon carded a 47, Kolby Charles a 49, Tristin Grantham a 48, and Noah Myers a 50.

In tennis action, North Kitsap beat Port Angeles 6-1. Audrey Rudd earned the lone Roughrider win and has now won two matches in a row.

In baseball, it was another tough day for the Roughriders and the Wolves. Port Angeles lost to second-place Olympic 6-2, and Sequim fell to first-place Bainbridge 14-2. The Wolves host Forks today at 4:15, while Port Angeles will host Orting at 3:15.

The Port Angeles softball team beat North Mason 2-1. Allison Leitz earned the win, pitching four innings with five strikeouts, while Lynzee Reid pitched three innings with five strikeouts.

At the plate, Reid doubled and singled. Kennedy Rognlien hit two doubles. Morgan Politika and Makkiah Stevens each had RBI singles. Nyomie Colfax and Lilly Anne Lancaster also added singles. The Roughriders host Olympic today at 4:00.

The Peninsula Pirates men’s soccer team has traveled to eastern France to sign footballer Louis Constant from Aubenas, France. Aubenas, a village of about 12,000, sits south of Lyon and north of Montpellier. It’s a popular tourist destination known for its medieval castles and large chestnut crop. Despite its small size, Aubenas has produced several professional soccer players.
