SEQUIM — The Sequim Irrigation Festival beings today, launching nine days of events celebrating the history that transformed Sequim’s dry prairie into productive farmland.
Now in its 131st year, the festival runs through May 9 and is recognized as the longest continuously operating festival in Washington, with origins dating back to 1896.
Opening weekend features “Crazy Callen Weekend,” with many activities centered at Carrie Blake Park. Family Fun Days on Saturday and Sunday include games, activity booths and children’s events such as a kids parade, relay races and a scavenger hunt.
Other highlights include Saturday evening’s Trashion Show, showcasing outfits made from recycled materials, and Sunday’s Crazy Daze Breakfast.
Organizers say the weekend is designed to be family-focused and largely free, emphasizing agriculture and sustainability.
The festival continues through next weekend, leading up to signature events including the Grand Parade and Classic Car Show.
