LOCAL SPORTS: Roughriders, Wolves Learn District Baseball Matchups as Postseason Play Begins

PORT ANGELES — The bracket is out for the District 3 baseball tournament, and the big news—Sequim is in.

The Wolves earned the #9 seed and will play at #8 seed Franklin Pierce Monday at 4:00. It’s a loser-out game, with the winner advancing to face top-seeded Bainbridge on Tuesday.

Port Angeles picked up the #7 seed and will host #10 seed Bremerton Monday at 4:00. The winner moves on to face #2 seed Fife Tuesday, also at 4:00.

Both games will be broadcast on KONP Newsradio with Oly Archibald and Greg Thomas on the call.

The Peninsula Pirates women’s soccer team has signed goalkeeper Lily Simpson out of Class 6A Centennial High School in Boise, Idaho. Simpson was a team captain, earned Second Team All-State honors as a junior, and was a four-year letter winner. She played three seasons as a starter for the Patriots and competed in club soccer with Global Sports Academy.

The Pirates also stayed local, signing Sequim’s Raimey Brewer. Brewer finishes as the third-leading scorer in school history with 78 career points, behind Brittany Carter and Taryn Johnson. She scored 21 career goals and holds the school record for assists with 38, including a single-season record of 13. As a senior, Brewer had five goals and 13 assists.

Sequim Wolf Raimey Brewer will stay close to home to play soccer for the Pirates.

In boys soccer, the District 3 bracket is also out. Port Angeles earned the #3 seed and will host a quarterfinal match Tuesday at 6:00, taking on the winner of Saturday’s matchup between #11 North Mason and #6 North Kitsap.

Sequim, the #9 seed, will face #8 Washington Saturday at 1:00 at Franklin Pierce High School.

On the diamond today, Sequim softball travels to Olympic for a 5:00 first pitch, while Port Angeles hosts North Kitsap at 4:15.

The Olympic League tennis tournament continues today at North Kitsap High School with an 8:00 a.m. start.

And tomorrow, the Olympic League track and field meet continues at North Mason High School beginning at 10:00.
