crt

PORT ANGELES — A Port Angeles man is in custody following a months-long homicide investigation tied to a deadly shooting near Deer Park Road.

The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office says 46-year-old Clinton Laverne King was arrested Thursday and booked into the Clallam County Jail for second-degree murder in the death of 73-year-old Danny Steven Kendrick.

Detectives say the investigation involved more than 45 search warrants. On Thursday, investigators located a vehicle connected to the case near Black Diamond Road and followed it to a home in the 1300 block of West 16th Street.

The Peninsula Crisis Response Team was called in to assist, and Stevens Middle School was briefly placed on modified lockdown as a precaution.

Deputies arrested King without incident as he prepared to leave the residence on a motorcycle. Investigators also seized a vehicle believed tied to the homicide.

The investigation began February 21st after deputies responded to a suspicious death in the 6300 block of Deer Park Road. Authorities later determined Kendrick died from gunshot wounds, and the case was ruled a homicide on March 5th.

The sheriff’s office says multiple agencies assisted in the investigation, including Port Angeles Police, OPNET, U.S. Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine, and the Washington State Patrol Crime Lab
