LOCAL SPORTS: Pirates Add Nevada Defender as Local Rowers Shine at Northwest Championships

PORT ANGELES — The Peninsula Pirates women’s soccer team has signed defender Teagan Murdock from Spanish Springs High School in Sparks, Nevada.

Murdock helped lead the Cougars to an 11-7-2 overall record and an 8-1-1 league record. She also earned Northern 4A All-Region Honorable Mention honors.

Teagan Murdock, a defender from Sparks, Nevada, has signed with the Peninsula Pirates women’s soccer team.

Noah Oberly and Danielle Woodhouse, members of the Olympic Peninsula Rowing Association, competed at the USRowing Northwest Youth Championships at Vancouver Lake Regional Park.

In Friday’s time trials, Oberly posted the eighth-fastest time in the men’s U17 single at 8:12.5. On Saturday, he finished second in the B Final with a time of 9:29.4.

Woodhouse recorded the 11th-fastest qualifying time at 11:18.3 to advance to the B Final, which was later canceled because of bad weather.

The next event for the club will be the Rat Island Regatta in Port Townsend on June 20.

Adult team members Lillian Kuehl and James Lesniak will row from Tacoma to Port Townsend on May 29. Kuehl will also compete in a race to Alaska beginning June 14.

While training Sunday, Kuehl and Julie Fischer were surrounded by several harbor porpoises swimming beneath their boat and leaping out of the water.

In roller derby action, the Port Scandalous Roller Derby team will host Rodeo City Roller Derby on Saturday, May 30, at 5:30 p.m.
