One dead, six injured in Highway 101 crash near Sequim

SEQUIM – One man died, and six others were hurt in a crash east of Sequim.

It happened Saturday just before 4 pm.

38-year-old Juan Porcel of Sequim died at the scene of the crash on Highway 101 at Louella Road.

The State Patrol says Porcel was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Milton Garrett of Port Angeles stopped on the highway to make a left-hand turn, when it was rear ended by another vehicle driven by Cynthia Blackwell of Port Townsend, pushing it into oncoming traffic. Garret’s vehicle was then hit by an oncoming vehicle heading eastbound on the highway.

Blackwell, Garrett and four people from Marysville in the oncoming car were taken to the hospital.

The State Patrol says charges are pending against Blackwell and Garrett and that drugs or alcohol was involved in the crash.

The accident shut down the highway in both directions for hours Saturday evening.
