PORT ANGELES – Port Angeles Police, responding to a welfare checkup over the weekend, discovered the body of a woman in her home where she was living with her autistic son.
Police report the woman would have been 80 this year and her son is in his 40’s. Foul play is not suspected at this time, and there is a coroner’s hold on the woman’s body pending an autopsy.
Police estimate the woman died approximately 2 months ago, which is the last time she is known to have spoken to anyone. Out-of-town friends contacted police, concerned that they had not been able to reach her during that time.
Police say social services have contacted the woman’s son and that he has declined assistance.
Their identities have not been released.
