PORT ANGELES – A local man, unidentified by Port Angeles Police, may be facing assault charges after attacking officers and later a nurse at Olympic Medical Center Wednesday night.
Officers were called to a disturbance around 10:30pm in the 100 block of East 13th Street indicating a man was throwing bottles at a screaming female.
Officers found the man to be showing significant signs of intoxication and at first tried to assist him in getting home. That became problematic when the man, estimated to be 6 feet tall and about 300 pounds, fell down into some bushes.
When officers tried to help him get up, he tackled one of them to the ground and wound up laying on top of the Officer. As two other officers struggled to handcuff him and get him off, he made numerous threats to kill them.
The man was eventually placed under control and transported to the Olympic Medical Center where he later kicked one officer in the chest and made numerous threats of violence directed at officers and staff.
The case has been referred to the Clallam County Prosecutor to review for charges. Assault on Officers and Nurses in Washington are a Class C Felony.
