PORT ANGELES – A hiker reported missing in the west end of Clallam County has been found and rescued.
40-year-old Stephanie Lincoln was reported missing when she failed to turn up from a day hike on the Rugged Ridge Trail, outside Forks on Saturday.
About 5 PM yesterday, Lincoln was located by a helicopter a little over a mile from her vehicle. She was airlifted to Fairchild International Airport in Port Angeles where she was cleared medically and reunited with family.
Lincoln says she missed the trailhead and inadvertently took another path. She tried to put out an emergency alert on her cell phone, but there was no service.
Sunday morning, she headed toward the sound of water and slid down an embankment. She made her way to a meadow and waited in hopes a helicopter would be able to spot her. She signaled to the helicopter when she saw it yesterday evening.
