Deputy suffered stroke before deadly crash

SEATTLE (AP) — Officials say a Washington state sheriff’s deputy suffered a stroke while on patrol last month in Seattle and his cruiser hit a parked car, killing the woman inside it. The deputy has now died.

The Seattle Times reports that the victims in the Aug. 29 crash were King County Sheriff’s Deputy Reggie Thomas and attorney Sarah Leyrer.

Leyrer suffered a blunt-force injury to her head and died at the scene. Thomas was removed from his vehicle and taken to a hospital, where his condition worsened. He had been placed in a medically induced coma and died Monday.
