PORT ANGELES – A local, tribal police official is taking a leadership position with the state law enforcement organization.
Lower Elwha Police Chief Sam White was appointed to the board of directors of the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs (WASPC). Chief White will be part of the leadership team of the 14-member executive board.
Chief White is a member of the Lower Elwha Tribe and has a 25-year career in law enforcement. Born in Port Angeles, Chief White has served several Olympic Peninsula police departments and was named Chief of the Lower Elwha Police in March 2019.
In a prepared statement, White called the appointment a huge honor as a tribal police chief and a Native American. He says he hopes to help improve government-to-government partnerships and relationships for Tribal and non-Tribal governments.
