RENTON — Tight end Luke Willson said he’s stepping away from football one day after re-signing with the Seahawks.
Willson says he realized it was time to move on after being back in the building and participating in practice with the Seahawks. Willson said he spent time in the hospital during the offseason due to a heart condition. He said the hospitalization changed his perspective on his life.
Willson was a fan favorite and has been a part of the Seahawks in some way for most of his NFL career of 7 seasons.
Meanwhile, the Seahawks announced they will induct former quarterback Matt Hasselbeck and coach Mike Holmgren into the team’s Ring of Honor during the upcoming season.
Hasselbeck will be inducted during halftime of Seattle’s game on Oct. 25 against New Orleans.
Holmgren will be inducted six days later during halftime of Seattle’s matchup with Jacksonville.
Holmgren arrived from Green Bay as Seattle’s coach in 1999 and led the Seahawks to five division titles and the team’s first Super Bowl appearance in 2005.
Hasselbeck spent a decade in Seattle, starting 131 of 138 regular season games and all 11 postseason games the Seahawks played from 2001 to 2010.
