SEQUIM – The Sequim-Dungeness Valley Chamber of Commerce will officially begin accepting nominations for their annual Citizen of the Year Award on Tuesday, January 10.

Created in 1968, the Citizen of the Year award was established to recognize individuals who, thru volunteer efforts, have made the Sequim-Dungeness Valley a better place to live.

The Citizen of the Year committee is made up of former winners of the award. The program is co-chaired by Rochelle McHugh, Citizen of the Year of 1995, and Brown Maloney, recipient of the Humanitarian Award in 2008.

Your nominations are now needed. The application can be picked up from the Visitor Information Center on E Washington Street in Sequim, or online at sequimchamber.com.

The deadline for applications is Tuesday, January 31st. While a Citizen of the Year award has been granted each year, on a less frequent basis a Humanitarian Award has been given. Criteria for this recognition is different and can also be found on the website.

Results will be announced on February 28th at a luncheon event hosted by the Chamber of Commerce at The Cedars at Dungeness.
