LAKE SUTHERLAND – A fire near Lake Sutherland did not grow any more overnight, and officials say it is 10 percent contained.
The fire burning on State Department of Natural Resources land between Eden Valley Road and Highway 101 started mid-day Saturday and quickly grew when fanned by high winds.
Through Monday, the fire remained at 108 acres.
Officials say firefighters made good progress yesterday and crews began mop-up operations along the fire perimeter where the containment lines have been completed. Mop up operations involve a labor process of extinguishing or removing burning material near the control lines, felling fire damaged trees, and cooling ashpits to make a fire less likely to escape.
Tuesday, they plan to continue mop up operations, clearing danger trees, laying hose along containment lines and minimizing heat and smoke where firefighters can access the fire safely.
A temporary flight restriction remains in place over the fire.
