LAKE SUTHERLAND – The wildfire burning near Lake Sutherland west of Port Angeles is now 15 percent contained.
Incident Commander Kent Stanford reports fire activity has been minimal in the last 24 hours, with the fire slowly creeping and smoldering. Crews continue mop up operations. About 10,000 feet of hose has been laid around the footprint of the fire.
Stanford says as the Incident Management Team reaches the objectives on the Sutherland Fire, fire crews and other equipment resources will be reduced allowing crews to return to their units in preparation for the upcoming fire season. Only two minor injuries have been reported for the Sutherland Fire.
He says objectives for the remainder of the fire assignment include mop-up operations, strengthening containment lines, clearing danger trees, and minimizing heat and smoke where firefighters can access the fire safely. A Temporary Flight Restriction remains in place over the fire.
