PORT ANGELES — The Clallam Conservation District (CCD) is proposing a new $5 annual parcel fee to help fund local conservation programs and is inviting the public to weigh in at a hearing scheduled this Friday evening.
The public hearing will take place from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. at the Red Lion Hotel Port Angeles Harbor in the Juan de Fuca Room. A virtual option via Zoom will also be available, with login details posted at www.clallamcd.org.
If approved, the parcel fee would apply to landowners throughout Clallam County, with exemptions available for low-income seniors and landowners with disabilities. CCD officials say the fee is necessary to close a growing funding gap caused by increased demand for services, rising operational costs, and unpredictable grant funding.
The proposed funding would help maintain and expand programs that support agriculture, soil health, water quality protection, and habitat restoration—including efforts like CCD’s native plant sale and streamside reforestation projects.
