PORT ANGELES — The Clallam County Charter Review Commission will meet this Monday to vote on a proposed charter amendment that would create a new Water Resources Specialist role.
The meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. in the Commissioners’ Board Room at the Clallam County Courthouse in Port Angeles. A virtual attendance option is also available — visit the county’s website for login details.
If approved, the amendment would require the Director of the Department of Community Development to hire a contracted specialist to gather and share water data with agencies across the county. The position would have no regulatory or enforcement powers and would be filled through a competitive bidding process.
An ad hoc seven-member committee—made up of county staff and citizens—would rank the bids. Cost could be considered but wouldn’t be the deciding factor. The contract would last four years and only move forward if the cost is less than a county commissioner’s annual salary.
If the position isn’t filled, it must be re-bid within a year. Any changes to the charter would still need voter approval.
