Three new K9 teams join local police efforts

Port Angeles – There are 3 new police K9 teams on the Olympic Peninsula. PAPD Officer Emery and her K9 Solo, PAPD Officer McKnight and his K9 Freddy, and Sequim PD Officer Johnson and his K9 Dutch have now joined PAPD Officer Fairbanks and her K9 Copper.

The new K9 teams are the result of months of training over this past spring and summer. Each K9 Officer and dog completed over 400 hours of training and passed a WA State certification test.

The K9 teams are used in situations where they are the most suitable resource. That would include searches for felony and potentially violent fugitives, building searches, and for support during other high risk operations. They are trained and certified in obedience, tracking, building and area searches, article searches, handler protection and criminal apprehension.

By the way, the next time you talk with one of the K9 Officers, ask them for a K9 team trading card.
