Larger than ever 4th of July event planned for PA

PORT ANGELES – Organizers are preparing for the biggest community “Fourth of July” celebration yet in Port Angeles.

They say they have more activities then ever before crammed into a day-long celebration that will start in downtown Port Angeles at 11 am Thursday. The events cap off with a big fireworks display over the Port Angeles harbor starting about 10:15 pm.

The Port Angeles Regional Chamber of Commerce is the prime organizer of the event. Executive Director Marc Abshire says they’ve continued to add to the festivities.

“Two or three years ago, we started growing this thing and it’s gotten kind of out of hand actually! No, no, it’s actually going to be a lot of fun. We’re building Port Angeles as the place to be on the 4th of July don’t you don’t have to go away somewhere else. This is the place to come to for the fourth, to celebrate our nation’s Independence and in just have a great time Family fun all across the downtown area.”

Among the activities this year are a cornhole tournament at Pebble Beach Park, a pickleball tournament at the Landing Mall and a lawn mower derby in the same location where the Winter Ice Village was in December.

There will also be contests to chip biodegradable balls into a boat floating offshore, a home run derby, pie-baking contest and hot dog-eating contest. Also, a  beer garden and a putting-for-wine contest will also be available. There will be a food tent near all the festivities as well.

A fun zone will also be set up with activities at the Gateway Transportation Center.

The grand parade will wind through downtown beginning at 6 pm.

There will be music on City Pier, including a concert from Northwest favorite Freddy Pink starting at 8 pm until the fireworks show.

And once again this year, tune to KONP FM 101.7 and AM 1450 for our exclusive music presentation to go with the fireworks show.
