PORT ANGELES – A Port Angeles man is in jail after a drug bust.
Yesterday, 40-year-old Justin Smith was arrested after Olympic Peninsula Narcotics Enforcement Team members found him at a known drug house in the area of Mt. Pleasant and Marsden roads. After hours of surveillance, Smith emerged from the house and fled on foot. He was eventually apprehended after surrendering to detectives.
He was booked into the county jail yesterday for delivery of heroin and delivery of heroin within 1000 feet of a school bus stop.
Olympic Peninsula Narcotics Enforcement Team members say Smith has been watched for more than a year. But the investigation began in earnest in July. This summer OPNET informants, wearing wires, made two purchases of heroin from Smith.
OPNET and local law enforcement agencies had been looking for Smith for several weeks. They say Smith knew he was wanted and became elusive; rarely staying in one place, changing vehicles and getting rides from friends.
