Two Chimacum School students sent home after being exposed to coronavirus

CHIMACUM, WA – Although Clallam County health officials are reporting no known cases of coronavirus here, it appears that in Jefferson County, there was a close call in the Chimacum School District.

A statement on the district’s website says that on Monday, “school officials became aware that two of our students were in close proximity to someone with COVID-19, also known as the Coronavirus, and then spent part of the day at the Junior/Senior High School before going home. Following an assessment by health department officials, it was determined that the students had no infection and no symptoms of the virus. As a precautionary measure, the students will not return to school pending additional test results”.

The statement goes on to say “Had health officials voiced any concern for the health and safety of our student population, we would have closed.”

In the meantime, the district is taking a series of preventative actions that include deep cleaning all schools and disinfecting school buses.
