Convicted of state charges, Port Townsend man pleads guilty to federal charges

(Tacoma) — A Port Townsend man, already serving a nearly 6-year sentence for leaving a heroin overdose victim, who later died, in a car outside a hospital emergency room, pleaded guilty in federal court to drug trafficking and illegal firearms possession charges Friday in connection to the same case.

Lawyers for 38-year-old Adam Kelly said under the terms of the plea agreement, both the prosecution and the defense will recommend a federal sentence of 5-and-half years to run concurrently with his present state sentence.

In March of last year, Kelly and his then-girlfriend left a 43-year-old overdose victim in a car outside the hospital emergency room. They then called the hospital asking staff to check on the victim. The victim died within twenty minutes.

Law enforcement traced the phone call to Kelly’s house. A search warrant revealed a sophisticated drug lab in the basement with pill presses, lab equipment, and over 75 pounds of illegal steroids. Records indicated Kelly had a lucrative business selling and shipping illegal steroids across the country.

In addition to the drug lab, Kelly had a wide variety of firearms, silencers, and tactical gear. As an admitted drug user, it is illegal for Kelly to possess firearms.
