PORT ANGELES – Port Angeles will have a downtown Fourth of July celebration, although it will be a smaller affair.
Port Angeles Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Marc Abshire says the event will be lively but limited.
“We are doing things on the fourth of July this year. We are not doing all the things we like to do, and that we’ve done in the past. We’re not having a parade, we’re not having a full day of activities for kids and vendors and concerts on the pier all day and all those things. However, we are planning an evening celebration downtown on the waterfront.”
There will be the always popular Lawnmower Derby, scheduled to start at 6:00pm in the parking lot normally used for the Winter Ice Village ice rink, at 121 W Front Street.
After the derby, starting at 8:00pm, popular classic hits band Black Diamond Junction will play a two-hour concert in the parking lot just east of Barhop Brewing and Artisan Pizza, at 120 W Railroad Avenue. Bleachers and seating will be available, but participants may want to bring their own chairs, blankets, and refreshments.
At about 10:15pm, the annual fireworks show will begin, accompanied by music played on KONP. Abshire says the fireworks should be visible throughout much of the city.
Meantime, Sequim will not have any public events during the day on the Fourth of July. The city will host its first-ever commercial fireworks display for the Fourth of July. That show will also start shortly after 10 pm and will be presented above the fields at Carrie Blake Park.
