LOCAL SPORTS: Peninsula College men ousted from NWAC tourney

EVERETT – The Peninsula Pirates men’s basketball team were knocked off by the Lane Titans 82-68 last night in the opening round of the NWAC tournament in Everett. The Pirates fell behind early 19-4 before they went on a 12-1 run to pull within 4 points. Then Lane went on 18-2 run to make the score 38-18 at the half. The Pirates never pulled within 10 points and trailed by as many as 25. Rayshawn Harris came off the bench to hit for 25 points, Jaylin Reed hit for 20 and Isaiah Sampson had 9 points and 8 rebounds. The Pirates end their season 16-1.

It is now up to the Peninsula Pirate women’s team. They will play in the opening round of the NWAC tournament Saturday night at 6 pm against the Northern Idaho Cardinals. You can hear that game live right here on KONP radio

In soccer action the Sequim Wolves shut out Port Angeles 5-0. Port Angeles will travel to Kingston tomorrow with the kickoff at 1 pm. In Golf action both Port Angeles squads stayed unbeaten with the girls out scoring Olympic 221-242. Piper Williams shot a 53 and scored the team’s first birdy on the par 3 9th hole. Katie Merchant shot a 55, Eve Burke 56, Saylah Commerton shot a 57, Mia Neff shot a 67 and Sydney Fryer shot a 68. The boys out shot Olympic 185-213. Phoenix Flores shot a 41, Edun Bailey shot a 44, Reid Schmidt shot a 50. Issac Schamp shot a 53 and Tony McMahan shot a 66. Port Angeles will travel to Bainbridge next Thursday.

The Sequim Wolves and Port Angeles Roughriders fast pitch teams travel to Anacortes tomorrow. Sequim will play Sehome at 2 pm and Anacortes at 4 pm. Port Angeles will play Anacortes at 10 am and Sehome at Noon.

Sequim will also host Forks today first pitch at 4:15 pm.
