In high school girls basketball action last night the Sequim Wolves buried North Mason 53-27 and the game was not that close. The Wolves led after one quarter 29-2. The Wolves played their entire 2nd team in the 2nd quarter and the Wolves still outscored the Bulldogs 7-4 for a 36-6 halftime led. Jolene Vaara led the Wolves with 17 points while only playing 2 quarters. Hannah Bates hit 3 – 3 point shots in the first quarter and had 9 points. Libby Turella had 7 points, Dani Herman hit for 6 points and Jelissa Julmist had 6 points.
The Port Angeles Roughriders lost at Bainbridge 33-25. The bright spot was Freshman Lindsay Smith who hit for 16 points.
In Boys action the Roughriders beat Bainbridge 67-48, and the Sequim Wolves earned a good road win beating North Mason 60 – 56.
In the Peninsula Basketball League, 7 Cedars knocked off Black Diamond Electric for the league championship 85-47. Kasey Ulin led 7 Cedars with 21 points, Gabe Long hit for 18, Jim Cook had 16 and Kyle Benedict hit for 15. Ryan Rutherford led Black Diamond with 18 points and Ron Shamp had 14.
In NWAC action tonight the 3rd ranked Pirate Women host Mount Hood, tip off at 6 pm.
It’s a girls high school doubleheader tomorrow right here on KONP News Radio. At Noon the Sequim Wolves tip off against a very good Anacortes team and at 3:30 pm the Roughriders host a tough Peninsula Seahawk team. Oly Archibald and Bob Hudon will have the live play by play.
