Memorial Day Ceremony organizers seeking volunteer assistance

PORT ANGELES – Despite the sad fact that the VFW Post 1024 of Port Angeles was forced to dissolve last year due to decreasing membership, the Memorial Day Ceremony that is held every year at Mt. Angeles Cemetery will go on.

That’s thanks to the fine folks at VFW Post 6787 of Carlsborg, who have arranged for a full ceremony beginning Monday morning at 9:30.

The American Legion Riders will form a Flag Line around the periphery of Veterans Circle. The Marine Corps League will provide the 3 shot volley Rifle Salute and Taps, and Erik Evans will perform the bagpipes.

The Ceremony will include Dungeness Composite Squadron Honor Guard, a unit of the Civil Air Patrol, and Amanda Bacon will sing the National Anthem.

Members of the general public are being asked to help with placing small US Flags at gravesites this Saturday in anticipation of the event, starting at 9am at Mt. Angeles Memorial Park, 45 Monroe Road in Port Angeles. Help is also needed at Ocean view Cemetery at 8:00am, located at 3127 West 18th Street in Port Angeles.

Public and family assistance would also be appreciated to pick up the small flags at both cemeteries at 4pm on Monday, following the ceremony.
