Habitat For Humanity purchases another blighted property for housing

PORT ANGELES – On November 30, Habitat For Humanity of Clallam County recently purchased the blighted property at 1127 Hazel Street, near Fairmount in Port Angeles, from the owner.

In a letter sent out to neighbors in the area this week, Habitat Chief Executive Colleen Robinson wrote that the plan is first to clear the property of all structures, vehicles and debris.

She said they plan to use the property as a staging area for the construction for their upcoming Veteran’s Build, a 4-plex of single-story townhomes directly next door, that will be for veterans looking to partner with Habitat and become homeowners.

The letter says they expect to break ground in early 2024 and complete the 4-plex by late spring or early summer, provided the weather and contractor availability cooperate.

Once the 4-plex is complete, they plan to build a single-family detached home on the 1127 lot.

The letter ends by saying that in January, they plan to invite the neighbors to a meeting showing plans and designs for the veteran 4-plex and answer any questions they may have.
