PORT ANGELES — A three-vehicle collision on State Route 112 near Dan Kelly Road occurred on Friday morning, leaving four people injured, according to the Washington State Patrol (WSP).
Troopers report the crash happened at approximately 11:37 a.m. when a white 1994 Toyota pickup, driven by 19-year-old Branden Sofie of Port Angeles, failed to yield and struck a red 2005 Chevrolet Equinox that was stopped in the eastbound lane attempting to turn left onto Elwha River Road. The impact pushed the Chevrolet into the westbound lane, where it was struck by a black 2012 Subaru Forester traveling in the opposite direction.
Authorities say the collision, which fully blocked the roadway, was caused by excessive speed for the conditions. No drugs or alcohol were involved.
Four people were injured in the crash, including the driver of the Chevrolet, 52-year-old Tammy Akin of Neah Bay, and two of her passengers—6-year-old Harmony Thomasson, who was wearing a seatbelt, and 29-year-old Gerard Ward, who was not. Ward was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center, while the others were transported to Olympic Medical Center for treatment. The driver of the Subaru, 35-year-old Kelly McGhee of Port Angeles, was also hospitalized.
Sofie and a 17-year-old passenger were not injured. Both were wearing seatbelts.
