Port Angeles – The Port Angeles City Shade Street Tree Program is back for its third year and now is the time to register for up to two free trees for your property.
Developed by community member Paul Forrest, the program has successfully added hundreds of shade trees to our community’s tree canopy by planting them, with the help of dozens of volunteers, throughout our residential neighborhoods.
Those interested can apply now through August 8. City staff will review planting sites and work with applicants to offer species appropriate for that location’s size, soil conditions, and existing utilities. Preference will be given to households who have not previously received a street tree as part of this program.
Residents can request up to two trees through an online application process. Approximately 115 trees will be available this fall, following the City’s Arbor Day Celebration. Ten species are being offered this year, and you can see the list at cityofpa.us/StreetTreeProgram, where you can also apply.
Community members can also apply to volunteer with the program, and help play a vital role in supporting tree planting and maintenance efforts, including helping with distribution in October.
