OCALA, Fla. — The Wilder Baseball Club 18U team saw its Babe Ruth World Series run come to a close Thursday after splitting a pair of bracket-round games.
Wilder opened the day with a dominant 12-2 win over Ocala (Fla.), erupting for nine runs in the second inning and cruising to a five-inning mercy-rule victory. Bryant Laboy and Jordan Shumway each homered, and Bryce DeLeon tossed three no-hit innings to help Wilder advance.
But in the evening game, Wilder fell 12-2 to Hanford (Calif.), which broke things open with a five-run fourth inning. Wilder was limited to four hits, including a solo home run by Braydan White. Defensive miscues and walks proved costly as Hanford pulled away.
Despite the loss, Wilder finished its tournament run with strong offensive showings and multiple standout performances on the mound.
