PORT ANGELES – The No. 1–ranked Peninsula Pirates soccer teams will wrap up their exhibition season this week before opening NWAC play on September 10th at home against Skagit Valley.
The Pirate men travel south tomorrow to face Evergreen State College at noon, followed by a 5:00 p.m. kickoff against PLU. The Pirate women will cross the border Friday for a 5:00 p.m. matchup against the University of Victoria on Vancouver Island.
When the Skagit Valley Cardinals come to Port Angeles, local soccer fans will see a familiar face — former Roughrider Paige Mason, now a sophomore midfielder for the Cardinals.
Former Roughrider Paige Mason will return to Port Angeles on September 10 when her Skagit Valley Cardinals face the Pirates in the NWAC opener.
Meanwhile, former Sequim Wolves All-State standout Taryn Johnson will make her NCAA Division II debut with Minnesota State–Mankato. Johnson redshirted last season due to injury, and her Mavericks have been picked by the media to win the Northern Sun Conference. They open their season Friday at home against Central Oklahoma.

High school cross country is on the schedule today, with both Sequim and Port Angeles competing in Silverdale. The meet begins at 5:00 at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds.
In girls’ swimming, Port Angeles will host Sequim and four other schools Friday at William Shore Pool, starting at 3:00.
And the countdown is on for Friday night football. The Port Angeles Roughriders will open at Civic Field against Mount Baker, with kickoff at 6:00.
