BELFAIR — In soccer action, the Sequim Wolves proved that old saying true — “Good teams aren’t always good, they’re just good when they have to be.”

The Wolves, heavy favorites on the road at North Mason, had to finish off the Bulldogs in overtime for a 2–1 win.
Sequim struck first at the 17th minute when Ruby Horgan-Moxley scored off an assist from Raimey Brewer. Brewer, the senior playmaker, was her usual dependable self, coming up with key plays on both sides of the ball. Horgan-Moxley, only a sophomore, continues to impress with her smooth, confident style of play.

The 1–0 lead held until the 67th minute, when a Bulldog fired a low shot that slipped past goalkeeper Lillian Anderson — a rare miscue for the Wolves’ standout netminder, who’s been rock-solid all season. Anderson, ever the competitor, was still visibly frustrated after the match despite the win.

In overtime, senior Kiley Winter delivered the golden goal off a perfect pass from Horgan-Moxley to seal the victory. The Wolves, now 4-5, host undefeated Bainbridge (9-0) on Tuesday night.

Meanwhile, the Port Angeles Roughriders (6-3) couldn’t pull off the upset, falling 2–0 to fifth-ranked Bainbridge. The Spartans scored in the 16th and 29th minutes. Senior Pyper Alton nearly got Port Angeles on the board, but her shot hit the post. Head Coach Dan Horton praised his team’s effort despite the loss. The Riders host Olympic Tuesday and travel to North Kitsap on Thursday.

In tennis, it was a classic rivalry showdown as Port Angeles edged Sequim 4–3. The Riders swept all three singles matches:

  • Grant Butterworth beat Lincoln Bear 6-3, 6-2.
  • Owen Leitz outlasted Zach Post 6-5, 5-6, 10-5.
  • Liam Miller topped Wyatt Perez 6-1, 6-1.

In doubles play:

  • Mason Rapelje and Bjorn Henrickson beat Jensen Wolfe and Abe Brenkman 6-4, 7-5.
  • Brett Manson and Gagan Seera lost to Josh Loucks and Tegon Kurtee 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (7-4).
  • Jacob Oberly and Khyler Fowler fell to Sebastian Buhrer and Ryan Stites 3-6, 6-3, 7-5.
  • Sky Gelder and Teig Carlson defeated Finn Braaten and Nico Musso 7-6, 3-6, 10-7 (7-5).

In volleyball, Bainbridge swept Port Angeles 3-0, while Sequim beat North Mason 3-1.

In high school football tonight, Sequim hosts North Kitsap and Port Angeles travels to Bainbridge — both games kick off at 7:00.

Roughriders head coach Dustin Clark, shown on the KONP Newsradio postgame show, takes his Port Angeles team to Bainbridge tonight looking for their third win of the season.

And in NWAC soccer, Peninsula College heads to Edmonds tomorrow — the men play at noon, the women at 2:15.
