PORT ANGELES — The long-discussed Joint Public Safety Facility shared by Clallam County and the City of Port Angeles is taking its next step forward.
County commissioners this week approved a request for qualifications to hire a project manager and construction administrator — part of a new phase to keep the project on schedule and within budget. Last week, the county also put the facility out to bid for a general contractor.
County Administrator Todd Mielke says the project manager will act as the owner’s representative, overseeing day-to-day coordination between the city, county, and the construction team, while ensuring the work meets design specifications.
He says smaller jurisdictions often hire outside project management firms because they bring specialized construction experience and help prevent cost overruns.
Bids for both positions are due October 29, with commissioners expected to open and review them that same day.
