SEQUIM Police and school officials say an arrest has been made following a series of threatening social media posts that circulated among Sequim students Sunday, prompting an evening of concern across the district.

In an email to families sent Sunday night, Sequim School District Superintendent Regan Nickels said the incident involved “threatening messages and a TikTok video” referencing a high school student. The messages were quickly reported to law enforcement, who launched an investigation with the Sequim Police Department.

By late Sunday, police confirmed that a suspect had been identified and taken into custody. While investigators determined the threats were a hoax, Nickels emphasized that making threats of violence toward schools is still a criminal offense.

“Based on the arrest of the lone suspect and the determination that no credible threat exists, all schools will be open tomorrow,” the district said.

As a precaution, extra law enforcement patrols will remain on the Sequim High School campus throughout the day Monday, October 20. Staff were expected to be briefed before the start of the school day.

District officials acknowledged the anxiety such incidents can cause, assuring families that “the safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our highest priority.” They encouraged anyone with information about the threat or other concerning behavior to contact a trusted adult, school official, or police directly.
