PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles City Council takes up proposed utility rate hikes Tuesday night that could kick in January first.
Under the plan, electric, solid waste, and Medic One rates would all go up to help cover service costs and future projects. City staff say the adjustments come from a cost-of-service study meant to keep the utilities financially stable.
For a typical household, the base electric charge would rise from about $34 to $42 a month, with a small increase in the per-kilowatt-hour rate. Garbage and recycling would go up about 14 percent, yard waste nearly double, and the Medic One fee would climb from $12 to nearly $15.
City officials say the changes aren’t tied to new spending, but will keep revenues in line with expenses through 2027 for power and solid waste, and through 2028 for Medic One.
The council will hold a public hearing during its regular meeting tonight at City Hall.
