BLYN — One person was killed and two others were hospitalized after a two-car collision Tuesday evening on Highway 101 near Pierce Road in eastern Clallam County, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Troopers said the crash happened at about 5:45 p.m. when a 2006 blue Toyota Scion traveling eastbound attempted to turn left onto Pierce Road and failed to yield to an oncoming westbound 2017 Subaru Outback. The vehicles collided and came to rest in the westbound ditch.
The driver of the Scion, 64-year-old Arthur R. Hetzel of Marysville, was pronounced dead after being transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. Troopers noted that he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The Subaru’s driver, 70-year-old Bruce E. Parsons, and his passenger, 70-year-old Cynthia M. Parsons, both of Port Ludlow, were taken to Olympic Medical Center with injuries. Both had been wearing seatbelts.
State Patrol investigators said drugs or alcohol were involved, and the cause of the crash was listed as failure to yield. Both vehicles were totaled in the collision. The crash and investigation closed the highway for more than two hours last night.
