Lemmon Road Standoff Ends in Fatal Self-Inflicted Shooting

PORT ANGELES — The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office says a man involved in a domestic disturbance just east of Port Angeles died by suicide Saturday after an hours-long standoff on Lemmon Road.

Deputies were called to the 900 block of Lemmon Road after family members reported that 54-year-old Jesse Yaun had made threats toward relatives and then went into a travel trailer on the property. Witnesses told deputies he might have access to a firearm, so nearby residents were temporarily evacuated as a precaution.

Negotiators and the Peninsula Crisis Response Team responded and attempted for nearly two hours to encourage Yaun to come out safely. During that effort, deputies heard a single gunshot from inside the trailer. Crisis-response personnel entered and found Yaun deceased from what investigators say was a self-inflicted gunshot wound. A handgun was recovered at the scene.

The Clallam County Coroner’s Office is handling the case.
