PORT ANGELES – Calling it “a milestone in the fish barrier removal project at Lees Creek”, the Washington State Dept. of Transportation announced Thursday that a new traffic pattern is coming to Highway 101 east of Port Angeles in the construction zone.

Beginning at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 8 through Thursday, Dec. 11 to 7 a.m. each following morning, one lane in each direction of 101 will be closed between South Brook Avenue and North Baker Street.

By 7 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 10, people will see new temporary changes to 101 in the construction zone. Traffic will shift onto the first portion of the new bridge over Lees Creek. Crews will then move to the other side of the highway and build the rest of the new bridge.

This work could be postponed or delayed due to rainy weather.

The lane closures allow crews to put down temporary roadway markings and set the new barrier layout.

Traffic will remain in this pattern until the entire bridge is complete in the summer of 2026.
