PORT ANGELES — If basketball fans missed yesterday’s Port Angeles–Onalaska game and wondered how it went, all they really had to do was replay the Neah Bay matchup from three weeks ago.
The Loggers’ 74–52 blowout came as little surprise to anyone familiar with how tough 2B basketball is in the Chehalis River Valley.
Despite the final margin, the game wasn’t as close as the score might suggest. Port Angeles trailed by just ten points, 17–7, after the first quarter — ironically the exact same first-quarter score as the Neah Bay game.
Onalaska had to shake off the rust from a long bus ride that morning, but once the Loggers finally heated up, they began to quickly pull away.
Logger shooting guard Emalie Jacoby, who entered the game averaging 18 points per contest, exploded for 32 points, knocking down five three-pointers. Five-foot-six senior Renzy Marshall seemed to own the paint, finishing with 15 points. Onalaska poured in 27 points in the third quarter to build a commanding 64–38 lead heading into the fourth.
Much like the Neah Bay game, the Roughriders struggled to get the ball across half court against the Loggers’ man-to-man full-court press. Onalaska made a living off steals that quickly turned into easy layups.
For Port Angeles, senior Teanna Clark battled throughout and led the Riders with 16 points. Lindsay Smith added 14, while Mikkiah Stevens and Morgan Politika chipped in eight points apiece.
The night ended with a crowd-pleasing moment when 4-foot-10 eighth-grader Peyton Iverson buried a three-pointer in the final minute, sending the Logger faithful into a frenzy.
