PORT ANGELES — In district playoff action last night, the Port Angeles boys needed near-perfect basketball against 18-and-4 Clover Park, but it didn’t happen. The Timberwolves earned a 64-43 win.

The Roughriders again struggled against Clover Park’s full-court press, turning the ball over 25 times—many of them converted into easy lay-ins for the T-Wolves.

Clover Park led 25-15 at halftime, then opened the third quarter on a 16-to-4 run to build a 41-19 lead. Port Angeles never seriously threatened from there.

Hunter Flores led the Roughriders with 13 points, and Kieler Pointe came off the bench with an efficient 8 points.

Port Angeles now faces Sequim on the road tomorrow night in a loser-out game. A Roughrider upset would send them to a Saturday loser-out, winner-to-regionals matchup at Bremerton, with a 5:15 tip-off. Their opponent would be the loser of tomorrow’s semifinal between Bremerton and Franklin Pierce.

Franklin Pierce, the number-three team from the South Puget Sound League, routed league co-champion Fife last night, 68-50.

In girls district action tonight, top-seeded Port Angeles—15-and-5—will be a double-digit favorite against 11-and-7 Orting. The Cardinals, the fourth-place team from the South Puget Sound League, edged North Kitsap 35-32 Saturday night but lost to Olympic earlier this season, 49-41.

A Roughriders win tonight would set up a semifinal matchup Friday night at Bainbridge against the winner of tonight’s Sequim–Steilacoom game.

Tonight’s girls game will be broadcast here on KONP Newsradio, with Greg Thomas, Dustin Clark, and Kylar McCaslin on the call.

The Olympic League champion Port Angeles Roughriders will host the Orting Cardinals tonight in a district quarterfinal matchup.

Former Roughrider Jack Gladfelter continues to rewrite the record books at Corban University. At the Dempsey Indoor Classic at the University of Washington, Gladfelter broke the school record in the 5-K, running a 14-11. That time ranks third nationally in the NAIA. He was also named Cascade Conference Athlete of the Week.

Former Roughrider Jack Gladfelter has been named Cascade Conference Athlete of the Week.

In NWAC basketball, the Peninsula Pirate men have their postseason hopes on the line tonight as they host Everett. Everett, at 5-and-6 in conference play, sits one game ahead of the 4-and-6 Pirates for the fourth and final NWAC playoff berth.

Tip-off for the men is at 5-o’clock, with the women to follow at 7.

Peninsula Pirates 6-foot-10 freshman Titus Driver and the Pirates’ playoff hopes are on the line tonight at home against Everett.
