Lake Crescent – The notorious Rock Wall on Highway 101 along Lake Crescent shed a few rocks on Wednesday. One of them went through the windshield of a truck transporting state Department of Corrections inmates and smashed the driver’s finger.
The driver pulled over as soon as he could and called the incident into dispatch.
One of those responding from the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office was Sgt. Shaun Minks, who described for KONP what he saw when he arrived.
“There was some gravel on the roadway near the the rock wall. It was about mile post 228. The DOC correction work crew rig was pulled over to the side of the road. There was a Parks unit there, and all inmates were still secured in the back of the truck, and the driver of the truck was outside on the phone. He had a bandaged pinky finger. And the the driver said the rock came through the windshield and smashed his finger against the steering wheel. And that was the only injury. All the inmates were fine”.
Sgt. Minks said there was minimal debris on the highway and nothing that would have disrupted traffic.
