PORT ANGELES — A new 24-hour public restroom is coming to Erickson Park after Port Angeles City Council approved the purchase Tuesday night.
The city will install a “Portland Loo,” designed to provide round-the-clock access to sanitation services in a central location along the city’s recreational corridor on Race Street.
This won’t be the first of its kind in Port Angeles. City officials say three similar 24-hour restrooms have already been installed in the downtown area as part of an ongoing effort to improve public access to facilities.
Officials say the new unit at Erickson Park will expand that access, especially in a part of the city that sees heavy recreational use. While the park already has restrooms, officials say the addition ensures reliable 24-hour availability, particularly during times when existing facilities may be closed.
The contract was awarded to Madden Fabrication, the sole bidder, at a cost of just under 194-thousand dollars, coming in slightly below the engineer’s estimate.
Funding for the project is already included in the city’s capital facilities plan.
City leaders say the expansion is part of a broader push to modernize aging facilities and improve sanitation access across the city.
