PORT ANGELES — A stretch of the Olympic Discovery Trail is closed following a landslide east of the city.
The City of Port Angeles says the affected section runs from the old Rayonier Mill site out to the Morse Creek trestle near Four Seasons Ranch. Officials say the area is currently unsafe for both pedestrians and cyclists.
City crews, along with the Peninsula Trails Coalition, are monitoring the damage and plan to begin clearing obstacles once conditions improve. In the meantime, they’re asking people to avoid that section entirely.
The closure comes as the city works to finalize a new maintenance contract for the trail, expected to be in place by the end of April.
No timeline yet on reopening.
