SEQUIM A  Sequim resident and union advocate has entered the race for Washington’s 24th Legislative District.

Kaylee Kuehn announced her candidacy for state representative, joining a growing field that includes Patrick DePoe and Aidan Hamilton. The seat is open following the retirement of eight-term incumbent Steve Tharinger.

Kuehn, a new mother with deep family roots on the Olympic Peninsula, says her campaign will focus on affordability and support for working families.

“People should be able to afford their bills and take care of their families,” Kuehn said.

Kuehn comes from a union household and previously taught high school before working in digital media. She has also spent four legislative sessions in Olympia as an intern, aide and union advocate.

Her priorities include improving access to education and health care, addressing mental health and substance abuse, supporting family-wage jobs and protecting reproductive rights.

If elected, Kuehn would become the first woman to represent the district at the state level in 15 years.
