PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles track team took its underclassmen to the South Puget Sound Invitational in Puyallup, where 25 schools — including several 3A and 4A programs — brought freshmen and sophomores to compete in a highly competitive meet.

For the Roughrider boys, freshman Chayce Wilson placed fifth in the 100 meters with a time of 11.86. He also finished fourth in the 200 meters at 24.47 and seventh in the 400 with a time of 57.62.

Gabryle Caldwell placed sixth in the 110 hurdles at 19.78. He also took sixth in the 300 hurdles at 49.04 and eighth in the high jump, clearing 5 feet 2 inches.

Sophomore Tayden Square placed sixth in the triple jump with a mark of 36 feet, 5-and-a-half inches.

On the girls side, freshman Mya Hill placed seventh in the 200 meters at 29.56 and took second in the 400 with a time of 1:06.94.

Alice Shields placed third in the 300 hurdles at 57.25 and fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 30 feet, 7-and-a-half inches.

Former Roughrider pitcher Heidi Leitz is settling in at Division II Saint Martin’s University.

The freshman is part of the Saints’ five-player pitching rotation. Saint Martin’s is 22-12 overall and 7-1 in conference play, currently riding a seven-game winning streak with doubleheaders scheduled this weekend against Central Washington.

Leitz has made 13 appearances with a 4.52 ERA, a 1-1 record, and one save. She’s faced 88 batters over 21 and two-thirds innings, recording 18 strikeouts and nine walks.

She struck out four over three innings in an 11-3 win at Menlo College, and earned her first collegiate victory at Montana State Billings, pitching two innings with three strikeouts in a 17-1 win.

In roller derby, Port Scandalous ran into a buzzsaw over the weekend.

Dockyard’s Undertow handed the Scandals a decisive 175 to 89 loss, overpowering Port Scandalous with a physical blocking game that disrupted the offense from start to finish.

The Scandals struggled to find rhythm against Undertow’s defensive wall, with scoring opportunities limited throughout the bout.

Despite the lopsided result, the team says it’s using the loss as a building point — pointing to growth, adjustments, and stronger chemistry coming out of the matchup.
