LOCAL SPORTS: Peninsula Athletes Shine at Regatta; Local 155 Rallies in Babe Ruth Win

PORT ANGELES — The Olympic Peninsula Rowing Association high school team competed at the Lake Stevens Regatta.

Noah Oberly finished second in his heat and posted the second-fastest overall time in the men’s U-17 single. Gabe Bell also took second in the men’s U-17 novice single.

Oberly, Bell, Alex Francis, Kai Eskrine, and coxswain Danielle Woodhouse teamed up for a third-place finish in the men’s U-18 novice coxed quad. Francis also placed fifth in the men’s open single.

On the women’s side, Mirabel Palacios and Hope Merrigan finished third in the women’s open novice event, while Palacios added another third-place finish in the women’s open single.

In Olympic Junior Babe Ruth action, Local 155 rallied from a four-run deficit to beat Athletes Choice 11-7.

Athletes Choice scored four runs in the first inning, with hits from Wyatt Bruch and Logan White. But Local 155 answered with five runs in the fifth to take a 7-4 lead, highlighted by a two-run single from Liam Shea.

Brayden Scott earned the win on the mound, while Jack Rudd pitched three scoreless innings in relief. Jacob Kimzey came on to close it out.

Mathias Harding led Local 155 with three RBIs, while Rudd, Kimzey, and Colton Sage each scored twice. Kimzey also stole three bases.

For Athletes Choice, Logan White went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, and Wyatt Bruch had a perfect 4-for-4 day.

It was a tough day for local high school baseball teams — Sequim lost at Bainbridge 11-1, and Port Angeles fell at Olympic 4-0.

In soccer, sixth-ranked Port Angeles dropped a heartbreaker to top-ranked Bainbridge 2-1. Oliver Martinez scored the lone goal for the Roughriders.

Sequim also fell, losing to North Mason 3-1.
