
PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Roughriders soccer team continues to prove it’s one of the top teams in the state, picking up two Olympic League wins over the weekend.
The Riders beat Olympic 2-0. Head coach Chris Saari praised freshman goalkeeper Maverick Williams for an outstanding performance, earning his fourth shutout of the season. Matthew Miller scored both goals, bringing his season total to 27.
On Saturday in Poulsbo, the Roughriders dominated North Kitsap 5-1 — their first win over the Vikings since 2019. Miller scored three goals, tying Rick Smith for the school’s single-season scoring record with 30. Oliver Martinez and Taihvan Lyle also found the net.
The 11-2 Roughriders, now 9-2 in league play, host North Kitsap tomorrow night.
In track and field, the Riders competed at the Eason Gear Up Invitational, featuring the top 32 athletes in each event.
Teanna Clark dominated the javelin with a personal-best throw of 134 feet, 2 inches — 19 feet farther than the next competitor.

Easton Dempsey ran a personal-best 1:57.87 in the 800 meters, finishing eighth. Liam Wilson set a PR in the 400 at 52.15 and helped the 4×400 relay team place 12th alongside Andre Campbell and Dempsey.
Brody Pierce placed 13th in the long jump at 20 feet, 3.5 inches and took 10th in the high jump. Hunter Flores finished 22nd in the javelin.
In baseball, Port Angeles beat Orting 8-3, while Sequim topped Forks 12-9.
In girls golf, the Roughriders fell to North Mason 247-204. Layla Parker led the way with a 56. Izzy Spencer and Mya Callis each shot 62, Raynee Ciarlo added a 67, and Lainey Rudd shot 68.
There’s tennis action today, with Port Angeles at Sequim. First serve is set for 4:00.
