PORT ANGELES — It’s semifinal Thursday for the fifth-ranked Port Angeles Roughriders boys soccer team as the 15-2 Riders travel to Fife to take on the fourth-ranked 15-1-1 Trojans.

Game time has been moved up from 6:00 to 5:30 because of the nightly Hood Canal Bridge closure.

Port Angeles is led by Bellevue College signee Matthew Miller. The senior striker has broken the Roughriders’ all-time scoring record with 37 goals and 6 assists this season.

Freshman Tanner Lagrange has added 9 goals, while junior Kanyon Anderson leads the team with 10 assists to go along with 2 goals.

Senior Oliver Martinez has contributed 7 assists and 4 goals, and junior Taihvan Kyle has emerged as one of the team’s most improved players with 3 assists and 2 goals.

Sophomore Sawyer Davis has also impressed the coaching staff with a goal and an assist. Senior defender Grant Butterworth has anchored the back line and is headed to Dartmouth, where he plans to study biology.

Fife has qualified for the state tournament four straight years and reached the Final Four three seasons ago.

Senior Hayden Wilbur, a Tacoma Community College signee, leads the Trojans with 22 goals and 11 assists. Junior Isaac Andreas has added 11 goals and 8 assists, while senior Robert Carlos, a 2025 SPSL second-team selection, has posted 10 goals and 13 assists.

KONP Newsradio soccer analyst Robert Grove, who will provide color commentary tonight, says Fife presents a major challenge.

“Their number 8, Hayden Wilbur, is a menace on and off the ball. They use a lot of tactics that are a big part of their game plan, especially set pieces and throw-ins deep in the attacking third.”

The winner qualifies for the state tournament and will face the winner of Bainbridge and Franklin Pierce on Saturday at 3:00 at Bainbridge.

The loser will play the winner of the Washington-Steilacoom match Saturday at 1:00 at North Kitsap, with the victor advancing to state.

Tonight’s match will be broadcast on KONP Newsradio AM 1450 and streamed at MyClallamCounty.com.

The pregame show begins at 5:00 and will feature Roughriders head coach Chris Saari and senior standout Matthew Miller. Oly Archibald and Robert Grove will have the call.

Roughriders head coach Chris Saari has Port Angeles one win away from qualifying for the state tournament.

Roughriders assistant coach Jack Waknitz diagrams strategy ahead of tonight’s matchup with fourth-ranked Fife.
