
PORT ANGELES — The Peninsula Pirates men’s soccer team has signed Shawn Moran, a scoring machine from Crested Butte, Colorado.
As a sophomore, Moran was voted the Colorado 2A State Player of the Year and MaxPreps State Player of the Year after scoring 16 goals with 13 assists and leading the Titans to a state championship.
During his senior year, despite battling a turf toe injury, Moran scored 25 goals with 10 assists, was again named State Player of the Year, and once again led the Titans to the state championship.
For his career, Moran scored 62 goals with 16 assists in 40 games. The Titans went 43-6-6 during Moran’s varsity career. He also carries a 3.9 GPA.
Moran plays guitar, skis, and enjoys refereeing soccer games.

The Pirates also went to Saint-Étienne, France, to sign Brahim Belghouj. Saint-Étienne, a city of about 170,000 southwest of Lyon, is known for its professional soccer club, A.S. Saint-Étienne.

The Pirates also signed Benjamin Schermutzki from Nantes, France, a city of about 370,000 in western France. Nantes is known for producing several soccer standouts, including Clara Mateo, a current member of the French National Team.

The Port Angeles Roughriders’ 2026 football schedule is now out, and the team will play three of its first four games on the road before hosting its final four Olympic League games.
The Roughriders open the season Sept. 4 on the road against Class 1A state power Mount Baker.
Port Angeles will host always-tough King’s High School on Sept. 11.
The Roughriders’ first two Olympic League games will also be on the road — Sept. 18 at North Mason and Sept. 25 at Bainbridge.
Port Angeles will host Bremerton on Oct. 2 and Olympic on Oct. 9.
The Roughriders are still looking for an opponent for Oct. 16.
Port Angeles closes the regular season at home against North Kitsap on Oct. 23 and Sequim on Oct. 30.
